Methodists schedule Christmas cantata

December 16, 2011

The Morning News – Katie Harris Jordyn Jensen (left) and Brianna Stewart will light candles at "The Ceremony of Candles" Christmas Cantata on Sunday.

BLACKFOOT – The "Ceremony of Candles", a Christmas and Advent Cantata will be presented by the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist choir Sunday at 7 p.m.
Randi Lemieux has directed the choir for over 30 years. Lemieux, who has a minor in music and choral directing, says she enjoys the presentation every year.
"With the motif of Christ coming into the world as Light," the Cantata begins with a dimly lit sanctuary. At the close of each song another candle is lit until the sanctuary glows brightly with candlelight. Each person holds a candle, symbolically to carry the Light of Christ into the world. Some of the song titles include “In the Bleak Midwinter”; “The Promised Light”; “Bethlehem Light”; “Rise and Shine”; “All Is Calm, All Is Bright”.
This year's presentation features soloists Kathy Torgerson and Sarah Marden. It will be narrated by Scott Fields and Vicki Chase. Brianna Stewart and Jordyn Jensen will serve as Acolytes, who will light the candles.
Everyone is invited. Babysitting and refreshments will be provided. Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church is at 168 S. University Ave.
