Mildred Vernetta Nelson, 89, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 from complications of heart and kidney disease.
Vernetta was born Feb. 8, 1922 in Rockford, Idaho to David William Borrowman and Mildred Jane Webster. She was the third of six children. She grew up and attended school in the Blackfoot area.
On Sept. 29, 1941 she married Jay Lars Nelson.
In her younger years she was a lifeguard at the Blackfoot Swimming Pool and worked at The Bon Ton. Later, she worked at many various potato warehouses in Blackfoot. In her free time she enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing pinochle at the Senior Center.
Vernetta was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by son, DeVere (Diana) Nelson of Blackfoot, Idaho; daughters, Donna (Larry) Parris of Blackfoot, Idaho and Lula (R Jay) Hawkes of American Falls, Idaho; one sister, Verleen (George) Walters of Riverside, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jay; son, Walter Jay; and daughter, Lois Vernetta.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at the Blackfoot 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 845 Grant St. in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at email@example.com.
