Nicholas Ira Van Sickle, 57, a Wapello resident, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in Pocatello from causes due to cancer.
He was born Sept. 12, 1953, in Oakland, Calif., the son of Harold Dean Van Sickle and Florien Lauretha Misch Van Sickle.
He spent his grade school years in Jefferson, Iowa, and after moving a few times, ended his high school education graduating from Manteca High School in California. He also had some college education, specializing in paralegal training.
He served in the Navy for over 16 years. He was on ships and stationed in various locations including the Philippines, California and Washington.
Upon his discharge he has worked for the Bureau of Land Management in forestry. The past five years he has worked for the law offices of Johnson Olsen Chartered in Pocatello. He was also active in his younger years in the 4-H program and the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his son and two daughters, Orlando Van Sickle, Ligaya Perera and Raquel Kravitz, all of Sacramento, Calif.; his father, Harold Van Sickle of Blackfoot; brother David Van Sickle of Danville, Calif.; sister Cindy Kendrick of Blackfoot; and five grandchildren â€” Victoria, Joseph, Leandra, Miciaih and Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his mother Florien.
The family will meet for a viewing and open house on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, from 9-10 a.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot, 132 S. Shilling Ave.
Graveside burial services will take place on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
