Norma McCandless, 81
Norma Jean Koenig McCandless, 81, of Blackfoot passed away Nov 13th at the Gables Assisted Living Center in Blackfoot.
She was born on Oct. 2 , 1932 in Dillon Montana, the third child of Clarence and Daisy Hildreth Koenig.
She graduated from Beaverhead Co. High School. She became an accomplished pianist and taught piano for many years. She also taught accordion lessons.
In 1952, she married Don McCandless in Reno, Nevada. Together they had seven children. Norma grew up on the family farm. Her parents owned a dairy and raised chickens. She loved working with her dad. Don and his brother, Truman ran a cattle operation north of Dillon. Norma fed the hired men, raised bum lambs, taught piano lessons, and worked to make life pleasant for her family. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after several years of marriage. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and made sure her children were taught at home and attended church. She held many callings in the Church and put her heart into all of them. She loved family history, making home movies of her family and working in the yard. She had great neighbors and friends that she loved and appreciated. She took care of her husband for over 11 years at home after strokes and Parkinson Disease made him bed ridden.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda McCandless of Blackfoot, Alison McCandless of Logan Ut, Nyla (Lloyd) Adams of Logan Ut; sons Reed McCandless of Blackfoot and Jay (Angela) McCandless also of Blackfoot. She has 22 grand children and 15 great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Boyd, sister Ruth Hansen, son Von (Suzanne Godfrey) McCandless and daughter, Nita (Steve) Shanafelt, a grand daughter, Kelly and great great grandson, Scott.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday Nov. 16, 2013 at the Blackfoot NW Stake Center, 740 W 100 N.
The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the stake center.
Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot.
