Oleson appointed to Fair Board

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot attorney Justin Oleson will represent Bingham County on the Eastern Idaho State Fair Board.
"I am looking forward to doing what I can to represent Bingham County," Oleson said.
The Bingham County commissioners made the appointment this week.
"The commissioners asked if I was interested and I agreed to do it," he said. "I try to do what I can to help out the community.
"The fair is a large part of our community; it's a big income producer," Oleson said. "I want to make sure the fair is economical for people to go to and that the fair has events that people want to see."
Oleson was involved in 4-H from the age of 8 and participated in FFA throughout high school in Blackfoot.
"The fair was quite a bit of my growing up," Oleson said. "[When I was growing up,] we would be at the fair all week for our 4-H projects. We would sleep in the barns. That's doesn't happen now.
"I think community service is very important," Oleson said. "The more people help the community, the community will become a better place."
Oleson and his wife, Christie, have one daughter and four sons — Cheyenne, Dakota, Wyatt, Riggin and Ruger.
The fair board is made up of six individuals who represent the 16 counties that make up the EISF. Two board members represent the northern counties of Butte, Clark, Custer, Jefferson, Fremont, Madison, Lemhi and Teton.
One board member represents Power, Oneida, Franklin, Bear Lake and Caribou. One individual each represents Bingham, Bannock and Bonneville counties.
Board member's terms last four years.
"We look forward to working with Justin," said EISF manager Brandon Bird. "Everyone on the board has a great love for the fair.
"Justin is replacing Max Collard who did a good job for us," he said. Collard served five years on the fair board.
"This is the 110th anniversary of the fair," Bird said. "Justin is joining the board in time for a pretty big birthday. We've been here long enough to have seen everything."
