Panthers advance to title game with 11-1 win over Marsh Valley

May 7, 2012

Adrian Castaneda slides safely under the Marsh Valley tag for the first run of eleven for the Panthers in their 11-1 opening round win at American Falls on Monday.

AMERICAN FALLS — The Snake River Panthers advanced to the 3A fifth district title game with an 11-1 five inning win over Marsh Valley on Monday afternoon.
"We're were we want to be, the district title game," Snake River head coach James Carter said.

Snake River jumped out on the Eagles with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Adrian Castaneda jump started the day at the plate for the Panthers with a lead off double into the left field gap. Castaneda eventually plated the first run of the day on a perfectly executed double steal as Bret Parkinson stole second and on the throw Castaneda broke for home, sliding under the tag for the games first run.
"We came out and did what we needed to do to get the win," Coach Carter said. "The guys did a good job of showing patience at the plate and then took good swings at balls in the strike zone."
Snake River added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning as they took advantage of three free passes by the Marsh Valley pitcher when Nate Martin laced a 2RBI single to chase the starting pitcher from the game.
Cash Cardona was the recipient of the run support as the lanky right hander worked the entire five innings, scattering 3 hits while striking out 10 would be batters in the ball game.
"Cash did his job today, just like every time that we have called on him this year," Coach Carter said. "To come out and only give up one unearned run is big and tomorrow he will come out and get behind the plate where he's done a wonderful job for us all year long."
Snake River put the game away with a 5 run fourth inning as Martin, Shane Parkinson, Cardona, Cole Rushton, Wyatt Wray and Bret Parkinson each picked up base knocks in the frame.
Snake River will be back in action today when they face off with Bear Lake for the district title. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 at American Falls.
