THOMAS — The Snake River Panthers turned in arguably their best overall team effort of the young season on Thursday afternoon as they downed a really good South Fremont squad 10-3 on the home diamond.
Cash Cardona turned in a fabulous performance for the Panthers as he pitched a complete game in his first outing of the season. In his seven innings of work, Cardona scattered 9 hits, struck out 11 while walking just one in the win.
"I really like what I saw from Cash today," Snake River head coach James Carter said. "He was able to come out and get the lead off guy out in every inning. He consistently threw strikes and got the outs that he needed to get."
With the pitching locked on cruise control, the Panther offense then took over the contest. In a game of big hits, of which the Panthers had 10 in the game, the biggest blow was a two out, towering home run over the left field fence by Travis Robertson in the bottom of the sixth inning. The deep blast capped a nice day by Robertson as he finished 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored.
"That hit by Robertson was a shot," Coach Carter said. "The whole lineup swung the bats pretty good. It was probably our best game of the season so far."
Also swinging big bats for the Panthers were Shane and Bret Parkinson who each collected doubles on the afternoon. Cardona helped his own cause with a 2 for 3 day which included a double and Nate Martin got into the extra base hit parade with a solid double of his own.
"We'll take this win, build on this and just keep improving," Coach Carter said. "I'm just really proud of the way that the guys came out and got the job done."
Snake River (3-1) will look to keep the momentum rolling when they host Sugar-Salem on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 A.M.
