Panthers pummel Bears 10-0 in five
Shane Parkinson dives back to the bag on a pick off attempt during the third inning of Snake Rivers 10-0 whitewashing of Bear Lake.
THOMAS — Shane Parkinson tossed five innings of 1 hit shutout baseball while the Panther offense erupted for 10 runs over four innings as the Snake River Panthers remained unbeaten in conference play with a convincing 10-0 victory over Bear Lake on Wednesday evening.
"Shane threw a good ball game and the kids just came out swinging the bats today," Snake River head coach James Carter said. "I'm happy with the win."
Adrian Castaneda was a big cog in the Panther offense as he reached base in each of his four plate appearances, and came around to score on three of those occasions.
"X is doing a great job batting lead off for us," Coach Carter said.
All told the Panthers pounded out 13 hits as a team as eight of the nine spots in the batting order collected at least one hit apiece.
Most of those hits came in a second inning that witnessed 12 hitters stride to the plate as the yellow clad Panthers tallied 7 runs in the inning to effectively put the game well out of reach.
In the frame Zane Stephenson, Travis Robertson, Cash Cardona and Nate Martin each laced doubles.
Shane Parkinson led off the inning with a towering fly ball to right field that carried over the fence for a solo home run, exciting the bench and igniting the big rally.
Snake River also got a fine defensive effort which was highlighted by a 6-4-2 double play in the fourth inning as Bret Parkinson flipped the ball to Castaneda. Castaneda then made the smooth transfer and throw to a stretching Cole Rushton at first for the twin killing.
"We played pretty good defense which is always a key to how well we are going to do," Coach Carter said. "We just need to build on this one and keep the momentum going forward."
With the win Snake River improves their season record to 10-5 and are a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
The Panthers will take the weekend off before returning to the diamond next Wednesday when they travel to American Falls for a 4:30 ball game.
