POCATELLO — Shane Parkinson scattered three hits over seven innings while Cash Cardona and Travis Robertson reached base eight times between them as the Snake River Panthers picked up a big road win against the Pocatello Rebels on Wednesday evening.
"We had men on base in every inning it seemed like," Snake River head coach Tom Strickland said. "The kids were just really hitting the ball well and really, this game could have been a ten run ball game if not for a couple of balls that we hit right at them."
Trey Serr roped a double from the lead off position as he led a merry go round of Panthers onto the bases as the Panthers collected 14 hits as a squad in the first game of the double header at Halliwell Park.
"I didn't play on the High School team but I think that I've caught up," Serr said. "I'm just trying to watch the ball, get on base and help my team win."
With Serr setting the table, Cardona and Robertson were equal to the task as Cardona finished 4 for 4 with a double and Robertson was just a home run shy of the cycle as he roped both a double and a triple in the opening game.
With the offense under control the Panthers played stellar defense behind a strong pitching performance by Shane Parkinson.
"The team did a great job," Parkinson said. "They knocked the ball down and got big outs when we needed them."
Parkinson carried a no hitter into the sixth inning when the opposing pitcher, Dillon Manning hit a two out single to break up the no-no.
"A high fastball," Parkinson said. "It's the same way I lost my the no hitter at state, on a high fastball."
The Rebals added two more hits in the bottom of the seventh inning but that was as close as they could get on the afternoon as Parkinson struck out the final batter of the ball game for the 5-1 victory.
"Shane pitched well, the kids played well and we're happy with the win," Coach Strickland said.
