RIVERSIDE — The Snake River Lady Panthers braved a chilly afternoon on the diamond, warming themselves with a hard fought 6-2 conference victory over the visiting Marsh Valley Lady Eagles on Wednesday evening.
"We played much better today, we just keep on trying and we are getting it all together," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "We just kind of worked at it one inning at a time and it was all right today."
Erica Ramirez turned in a wonderful performance from the pitching circle, keeping the Marsh Valley hitters off balance with a wicked change up and a well placed fast ball all afternoon long. Ramirez finished the contest with a complete game 4 hitter, allowing just 1 earned run as she struck out nine Lady Eagle hitters.
"Erica did a good job, she kept the ball down and hung in there on a day in which the pitching conditions were far from ideal," coach Martin said. "Kudos to Erica today, she did a good job and the defense actually backed her up today and gave her the support that we should have had against American Falls."
Offensively the Lady Panthers had just 7 hits on the afternoon but four of those were of the extra base variety as Courtney Steinbaugh hit a triple and Bailey Simper, Chelsee Vail and Shayla Jones all swatted doubles in the win.
"The girls got some really good swings on the ball, especially in the third inning," coach Martin said.
Tied at 1-1 entering the home half of the third inning, Snake River went to work as Chelsey Martin led off with one of her three singles on the day. Steinbaughs blast into the left center-field gap scored Martin as Steinbaugh trotted into third with a stand up triple.
Simper scored Steinbaugh one pitch later on an RBI ground out to second base. Macy Martin then wore a pitch and scored one pitch later when Vail sent her line drive double past the Marsh Valley outfielders for a 4-1 lead.
Snake River added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth when Jones swatted an RBI double with two outs to score Taylor Herrick.
"This was a great win for us today," coach Martin said. "We will take a win any time we can get a win against Marsh Valley."
Snake River (3-4, 1-1) will travel to South Fremont today for a game scheduled to begin at 4 P.M.
