Roberta 'Toby' Tye Cofer Smith, 99
Roberta “Toby” Smith, 99, of Blackfoot, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 at the Bingham Memorial Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center.
Toby was born Jan. 16, 1914, Barborsville Kent., the daughter of Charles Emmett Cofer and Martha Jannette Smith Cofer. She entered grade school at Cambellsville, Kent.  The family moved to Heyburn, Idaho where she attended public school, graduating from Burley High School in 1932.
She attended college at Pocatello where she met and married Ralph Smith, April 12, 1936.  They were married at the Smith family home in Blackfoot.
She and her husband worked for Smith Bakery, founded by her husband’s father in 1916. They later co-purchased and operated the bakery with her husband’s brother Frank until it closed in 1955.  They were blessed with an adopted son, Raymond, in 1953.  He was a great joy to her and in her later years was an exceptional son, visiting her daily as she resided at the Willows in Blackfoot.
She was an accomplished homemaker, gardener, fisherwoman, camper, baker and famous at the bank for her donuts.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackfoot.  She practiced the teaching in her daily life.
Toby was a resident of the Willows in Blackfoot for over 10 years.  She knew her caregivers as family.  The last week of her life was spent at Bingham Memorial Hospital/Long Term Care. The compassion and care she has received was excellent. The family extends grateful thanks to all who shared her life, her stories and provided for her daily needs.
She was preceded in death by her husband and son.
She is survived by one brother, Emmett Cofer and his wife Joan, of Reno, Nev.; a sister-in-law in Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
We will miss you, sweet Aunt Toby…but your work is complete.  The love, joy, spark and wit you added to our lives’ will live on.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot.  Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery.
