Rollin' for a Cause raises $11,000 quickly

August 1, 2011

The Morning News - Katie Harris Taylor Higginson, the inspiration behind the "Rollin' for a Cause" fundraiser, plugs her ears as more motorcycles pour into the parking lot Saturday morning. Taylor lives with juvenile diabetes.

BLACKFOOT – The "Rollin' for a Cause" fundraiser to benefit children living with juvenile diabetes in Bingham County started Saturday morning with bikes rollin' out and concluded later that evening with donations rollin' in.
As the roar of Harley engines could be heard coming up the road an emotional Susan Jensen said "I love that sound!"
"This is just awesome and amazing," said Jensen, co-organizer of Rollin' for a Cause. "I can't believe this many people showed up."
According to Jensen, the event raised right at $11,000, with more funds expected over the next couple of weeks. Donations can still be made at any Idaho Central Credit Union under the name "Rollin' for a Cause". All funds will directly benefit kids in Bingham County living with juvenile diabetes. Organizers expect to distribute the funds over the next several months.
Toddler Taylor Higginson is just one child in Blackfoot with diabetes. She came with her mother and grandmother to show their support and appreciation for those contributing to the cause.
"There is so much awareness for other childhood diseases," said Taylor's mother Asia Higginson. "People don't understand how hard it is just to keep them alive everyday."
Speaking of the event Jensen said "I am so excited, it met or beat every expectation I had! I am looking so forward for next year's (event) and setting the bar a little bit higher!"
