Roy Spencer Smith, 65, a Blackfoot resident, passed away Saturday Jan. 15, 2011, at his home following a short illness.
He was born Sept. 7, 1945, in Gallup, New Mexico, the son of Lucius Spencer Smith and Frankie Marie Carpenter. He lived his youth in New Mexico where he was educated and graduated from the Quemado High School.
He married Elizabeth Ann Brownlee on Sept. 29, 1967, in Gallup, New Mexico. He lived in New Mexico most of his life until coming to Blackfoot seven years ago.
He was a rancher and carpenter all of his life, among numerous other talents.
Roy loved music and was a lead Guitar player as well as a lead singer. He had his own musical band called Roy Smith and the Country Coins. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Smith of Blackfoot; brother, Jabez Smith of San Antonio, New Mexico; sister, Iva Greiner of Luis Lopez, New Mexico; two sons, Dwaine Roy Smith of Socorro, New Mexico and Danny Ray (Courtnee) Smith of Blackfoot; and daughter, Denise Smith of Blackfoot. Also surviving are his mother, Frankie Smith of Socorro, New Mexico; and grandchildren, Justin Smith, Desiree Smith, Shelby Lynn Smith, Dakota Cervenak, Savannah Krause, Spencer Smith, Sterling Smith and Sage Smith.
He was preceded in death by grandson Lincoln Smith and his father Lucius Smith.
This cowboy will be missed by all that knew him.
Memorial Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at the Calvary Chapel Church, 20 E. Pacific.
