Royals topple Panthers

July 18, 2012

Snake River shortstop Bret Parkinson puts the tag down on a Hillcrest Royal base runner during third inning action at Hillcrest High School on Tuesday evening.

AMMON — A short handed Snake River American Legion squad took to the field at Hillcrest on Tuesday evening in a make up game between the Royals and Panthers from an earlier season rain out.
At the end of seven innings of play Snake River were unable to overcome a slow night at the plate as they fell to the Royals 6-0.

"Normally we are such a good hitting team but we just couldn't get anything to fall," Snake River head coach Tom Strickland said. "I'm proud of the guys though to come out here short handed and to battle the way that they did says a lot."
Indeed the Panthers certainly missed the Shelley trio Kaden Schmitt, Konner Gilstrap and Josh Peterson as they were away from the baseball team on Tuesday evening but several Panthers stepped up in their stead with Kyler Price and Brendon Finn each picking up base knocks on the evening.
Trey Albertson turned in a solid performance on the bump for the Panthers as he entered the ball game with one out in the fourth inning in relief of starting pitcher Shane Parkinson. Albertson showed good form as he held the Royals scoreless in his 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing just one hit for the Panthers.
"I'm really proud of Trey," Coach Strickland said. "He came in and did a really good job for us. I thought that he did a good job of throwing strikes and getting outs. Other than a couple of bad innings defensively I thought that we got good pitching for the whole game. We just needed to string a couple of hits together."
Snake River will be short handed again this evening as they are scheduled for a district double header against Bonneville at Snake River High School beginning at 4 P.M.
"I just hope that we can get enough players for tomorrow's game," Coach Strickland said.
The Panthers will close out the regular season at home on Friday when they host Madison and if they finish in the top six of the standings they will then head to Idaho Falls for the district tournament beginning on July 26.
