THOMAS — Cole Rushton and the rest of the Snake River Panthers were walking quietly and carrying a very big stick on Wednesday afternoon, scoring 17 runs on 15 hits in a 17-5 demolition of conference rival Marsh Valley.
"We hit the ball good and did a good job of playing a baseball game in just terrible weather," Snake River head coach James Carter said. "I hate playing baseball in this kind of weather but the kids did a great job of staying focused through it."
In a game that featured eight Snake River extra base knocks, Rushton provided the biggest blow as he took an 2-0 fast ball deep over the center field fence for a walk off, grand slam home run.
"That was a big hit for Cole he really stepped up at the end of the game and came through for us," coach Carter said.
The game was never in doubt as the Panthers scored multiple runs in each of the five innings of play. The big inning was the third as Snake River sent 12 hitters to the plate, scoring 6 of them for a commanding 11-1 lead.
Cash Cardona and Candon Watt each crushed a triple in the uprising, for Cardona it was his second triple of the afternoon.
With all the run support Keegan Keller was able to pick up the win as he held the Marsh Valley bats to just 1 run on 3 hits in his time on the hill.
Shane Parkinson picked up the save in relief for the Panthers.
"Keegan pitched very well for us in the beginning and overall we did pretty good," coach Carter said. "It was a big conference win which puts us at 2-0 in the conference and we will need to build on this, not let down and go take care of business against Bear Lake now."
Bear Lake will have to wait for now however as next up for Snake River (7-2, 2-0) is a road date at South Fremont today for a game against the Cougars.
