SHELLEY - The Sugar-Salem Diggers had a couple of streaks going as they headed to Shelley to take on the undefeated Russets Tuesday afternoon. The Diggers were also undefeated and they had scored in double figures in every game they had played this season. They entered the game having not given up a goal all year, four wins, four shut outs and over 40 goals scored.
The Russets were also undefeated riding a six game win streak of their own and they had shown some offensive prowess as well, having scored 18 goals in their most recent game this past Saturday afternoon. When these two juggernauts met, something would have to give. The blustery winds played into the Diggers hands as they handled the gusting wind better than the Russets and the end result was an all important 3-2 win in a conference game. The Diggers had not downed the Russets in more than three years and the joy was etched on the faces of the girls from Sugar-Salem.
