Sam Christiansen, 69—June 20, 1944, to Dec. 30, 2013
Sam Christiansen, 69, of St. Anthony passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sam was born June 20, 1944, to Chester and Cleo Barton Christiansen. He lived with his parents and older brother Gerry in Lovell, Wyo., where he graduated from high school in 1962.
While continuing his education at Ricks College in Rexburg, he met Janice Ruth Smith of Moreland. They were married June 20, 1964, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and made their home in Moreland and then Blackfoot as Sam continued his studies at Idaho State University.
After graduating from ISU, he taught classes at Blackfoot High School for one year and then moved his family to St. Anthony where he was an educator/administrator for 30 years in the South Fremont School District, as well as involved with Ricks College continuing education.
Sam was active in the community, serving on the city council. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his service included bishop, member of the stake high council, and at the time of his death, serving with his wife as ordinance workers in the Rexburg Temple.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, John Patrick; a stillborn daughter, Emilee; his brother Gerry and most recently, his parents-in-law John and Jean Smith of Moreland.
He is survived by his dear wife Janice, sons and daughters-in law Craig S. (Sondra) Christiansen of Middleton; David Keith Christiansen of Lehi, Utah; Steven C. (Alisha) Christiansen of Gresham, Ore.; Brian Q. (Mandie) of Payson, Utah; and a daughter, Kathryn (Jed) Bichsel of Provo, Utah. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church, West 2nd North, St. Anthony, with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m. The family will also meet with friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Flamm Mortuary in St. Anthony.
