Shirley Ann Mecham, 74, of Blackfoot slipped away peacefully on a bright sunny Saturday morning, July 13, 2013 with her little companion, Sheba, by her side.
Shirley was born July 7, 1939 in Blackfoot, the daughter of Kenneth C. Mecham and Aneta Jensen Mecham Lawrence. She was raised in the Blackfoot and Firth areas.
Shirley was a hard worker and never went without a job; she retired from Basic American Foods after 20 years. She decided retirement just wasn’t for her, so she became a Foster Grandparent and loved it! All the kids called her grandma, and that is what she was to them.
Throughout her life, Shirley’s gift of compassion and unconditioned love blessed the lives of many. She had many good friends, and shared years of memorable activities with them. Shirley was a positive person, had a great sense of humor, and quite the daredevil — she even jumped from a plane. She really loved life! She enjoyed the simple things in life like camping, playing cards, and dice with her mother and sisters.Â
The greatest love and joy of Shirley’s life was the cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. They were the most important thing in her life.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her visits with the Relief Society sisters.
She is survived by daughter Kristi (Vicente) Linares; sons, Tomas (Maria) Cota and Jaime (Recia) Cota; grandchildren, Elisa (Bobbie) Chavez, Adolfo Cota Jr., Kasie (Alana Turnage) Cota, Tomas (Sylvia Lloyd) Cota, Mathew Cota, Alex Cota, Tia Cota, Talissa Cota, and Tyra Cota; great-grandchildren, Kyler, Morgin, Maci, Presli, Alexis, Nathanel, Fabian; sisters, Bonnie Evans, Deone (Max) Anderson, Tena (Raul) Mejia, Chris (Kenny) Buck.
She was preceded in death by father Kenneth Mecham, mother Aneta Lawrence, stepfather James Lawrence, and sisters Phylis Mecham and Peggy Sjostrom.
The world will miss this beautiful lady; she had a heart the size of Heaven! She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 and again for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery.
