Simpson first woman on Blackfoot Council in 10 years

Morning News-Lisa Lete Political newcomer Blackfoot city councilwoman Jan Simpson took the oath of office along with city councilmen (from left) Bart Brown, Chris Jensen and Layne "Skip" Gardener at Blackfoot City Hall Tuesday evening. Simpson is the first woman to serve on the council in nearly 10 years.

While some kid that she will be the "rose among the thorns," newly elected city councilwoman Jan Simpson said she is wholeheartedly looking forward to working new mayor Paul Loomis and seasoned councilmen Bart Brown, Chris Jensen and Layne "Skip" Gardner.
Simpson, a 40-year resident of Blackfoot, ran unopposed for retiring councilman Rich Woodfin's seat in November's election. She is the first woman to serve on the council since city councilwoman Cherie Clawson's term ended in 2006.
Simpson was sworn in on Tuesday where she was warmly welcomed by Mayor Loomis, fellow council members and community members.
