ABERDEEN — Jacoby Johnson and Brad Coombs helped get Snake River off to a fast start in the Panthers' 64-36 non-conference boys' basketball win over Aberdeen on Tuesday night.
Coombs had three steals in the early going, getting a layup off one theft and getting the ball to Johnson for layups on the others. Snake River opened with a 21-4 run with Johnson scoring 10.
But Aberdeen answered with a 15-3 run of its own to close within 26-23 at halftime. Austin Horrocks had five points in that spurt and Zeke Uribe added four.
"We did really well in the first quarter, but then we got out of our offense and broke down defensively," Snake River coach Bob Coombs said of the first half.
The Panthers replicated their fast start in the third quarter, using a 20-2 run to open a 46-25 lead. Johnson got a steal and layup, then added two rebound baskets during the streak. Shane Parkinson, Cooper Peterson and David Gama had 3-pointers.
The Panthers (9-6) outscored the Tigers 18-11 in the fourth quarter.
"The second half we executed our offense and did what we wanted to do," Coombs said.
The Panthers were also active defensively, getting steal after steal.
"I thought everybody played well," Coombs said.
Johnson led Snake River with 21 points. Parkinson had 8 while Peterson. Gama and Wyatt Wray each had 7.
Uribe, Horrocks and Hayden Driscoll led Aberdeen (5-10) with nine points each.
