Snake River School District first in state with 'app'
THOMAS – To improve communication with the schools, students, parents and patrons, the Snake River School District is offering a free “App” to anyone and everyone who wants it.
This app can be added to any Apple or Droid device, iPAD, smart phone or Droid tablet.
“The school district has a web page and Facebook page, we are adding this to get better communications out to patrons,” said Lorrie Surerus, Technical Director of the Snake River School District. “We want to improve community relations with patrons and students.
To get this App, all you have to do is search for School Connect in your App store. From there, it will ask you your state and Snake River will come up because Snake River is the only school district in Idaho with an App on school connect.
“It is completely free to the district and to anyone who would like to access this technology,” she said.
The school district is offering this free App to anyone and everyone who is interested in what’s going on at Snake River.
Through this app, people can assess school lists, teachers, clubs and PowerSchool, the student information system. Links to athletes, sports schedules and the Snake River Education Foundation are also available on this App.
One person from each school is assigned to update the App, Surerus said. The updates are called “push notices.”
With help from each school, the information is current.
Each school will be able to send out their emergency notifications, such as school closings because of snow, as well game scores and other information they want people to know.
People can customize the App to receive information from all the district or information from just one school.
If a parent would like to see his/her student’s grades, that information can be accessed using this devise. There is a password so just anyone cannot access student records.
Everything [on the App] is very secure, Surerus said.
“We want to stay in better communication [with people] and increase participation,” said Library Director Sherrilynn Bair.
Businesses can also advertise on this App. A scroll bar is on the bottom of the screen.
“It’s unobtrusive,” said Bair.
Connecting to this is as easy as using a QR Code. Point your phone at the code and follow the instructions. Patrons select “Idaho” and then “Snake River”.
If you have any questions about connecting to this App, you can email email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, or email@example.com.
