THOMAS — It was senior night at Snake River High School on Wednesday evening as 8 seniors were honored for their contributions to the Snake River wrestling program over the years.
In addition, the Panthers welcomed conference rival American Falls for what has become one of the hottest rivalries on the mats in all of Southeastern Idaho.
At the end of the night, American Falls was able to get key wins, in some tightly contested matches, sending the Panther faithful home with a 46-27 loss.
After a pre-match ceremony that included senior Jesse Vogler receiving a plaque commemorating his 100th career victory, the Beavers shot from the gates with a 15-0 advantage after the first three matches.
Vogler stopped the bleeding at 152 with a hard fought 6-2 match before American Falls won the next three matches for a commanding 28-3 lead.
Senior Mike Duff then started the momentum shift to Snake River purple with a big second period pin at 215, keying a run of 3 Panther victories over the next four matches, capped by yet another pin by a senior when Tony Casteneda got a first period pin at 119.
American Falls was able to capture the next two matches however for the final team score.
