Snake River's first four baskets were 3-pointers as the Panthers started fast en route to a 69-52 District Five victory over Marsh Valley on Friday night.
Jaden Poulter got a steal and layup to complete the first quarter scoring for the Panthers (6-0, 17-3). Trey Albertson and Brad Coombs each had a 3-pointer and Kade Harral had two in Snake River's early barrage.
Snake River led 14-7 after one quarter. The Eagles (2-4, 5-15) closed within 14-10 to open the second before the Panthers answered with a 9-0 run to take control.
Snake River put up 25 points in the third quarter to build a 52-28 advantage heading into the final quarter. The last eight minutes turned into a junior varsity game after coach Bob Coombs pulled his starters.
Coombs led the Panthers with 16 points and Curtis Keller had 12. Tyler Coombs and Kade Harral had 9 apiece while Kade Keller had 8 with Klay Keller and Albertson finishing with 7 points each.
It was the final home game for five seniors â€” Harral, Kade Keller, Curtis Keller, Brad Coombs and Albertson.
"That's a good group of kids who've played together for a long time," said coach Coombs. "Tonight they all contributed and did well."
Of the fourth quarter, when the game turned into a junior varsity affair, Coombs said, "it was nice for our younger kids to get a chance to play."
Snake River will open district tournament play in Pocatello on Feb. 21. The Panthers will meet American Falls in that game.
Andrew Vaughn led Marsh Valley with 24 points, getting most of them in the fourth quarter. The junior started but only had 5 points in the first three quarters.
