State Hospital South patient captured in IF

IDAHO FALLS — A man who had escaped from State Hospital South over a week ago was captured in Idaho Falls Monday night.
Jeremy Johnson, 26, was arrested on multiple felony warrants.
Idaho Falls police officers had responded to the 1000 block of Lovejoy around 8 p.m. and found Johnson at the home. The residence did not belong to Johnson.
At first, Johnson came out of the house, but went back inside when police told him to come out.
Police said Johnson tried to get away through the back window, but stayed inside when he saw police. He continued to hide out in the house despite officers trying various ways to coax him out.
The Idaho Falls SWAT team was called just after 9 p.m. because a SWAT team uses different strategies than the police.
The SWAT team entered the house and found Johnson under a bed. Police said he had methamphetamine and morphine.
Johnson was arrested on six counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Bonneville County warrant for felony escape from State Hospital South in Blackfoot, and two Bonneville County warrants for felony probation violation. He also faces a charge of resisting arrest.
Johnson escaped from State Hospital South on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 19.
Hospital personnel were doing checks on him every 15 minutes and were aware of his departure just minutes after he left, shortly after 9 p.m. Police were contacted immediately.
He is currently in the Bonneville County Jail.
