December 22, 2011

The Morning News - Katie Harris The Posadas, a Christmas tradition in Mexico, started with a grand entrance by Ziry Pelayo, who played the part of Maria, and Axel Barrera, who played Jose. The couple walked alongside a miniature horse as they reenacted Mary and Joseph entering Bethlehem.

BLACKFOOT — Students in the Ridge Crest Limited English Proficiency (LEP) after school program celebrated Posadas with their families and teachers Wednesday evening. The Posadas, a Christmas tradition in Mexico, includes a reenactment of the procession into Bethlehem, culminating with a fiesta.
Approximately 25 students participate in the LEP after-school program Monday through Thursday. They receive help with their homework, work on special projects and get extra support from bilingual staff.
The cultural event was a great opportunity for families to celebrate the season, and the response was huge with about 129 people in attendance.
"We want everybody at this school to feel part of the community," said Ridge Crest Principal Colin Folsom. "We'd like to see more coming together and are excited about this event."
