About 30 students from Ridge Crest, Moreland and Arco elementary schools were honored Tuesday evening for their award-winning artistic endeavors in this year's regional Reflections Program.
Sponsored by the school's PTA, Reflections gives students an opportunity to create works of art through dance choreography, film/video production, visual arts, music composition, literature and photography - based around a designated theme. This year's Reflections theme was "Believe, Dream, Inspire." The entries are then judged by community volunteers requested by the PTA.
Ridge Crest Elementary School first grader Kennedy Lowe, (7) (daughter of Jake and Tia Lowe) is one of the winners whose art received the "award of excellence" and will go on to the state competition.
Thanks to the encouragement of her teacher (Linda) Pilster, Kennedy entered a picture of an American flag, titled "I Can Dream" that she took with her father's cell phone.
All smiles upon winning her award, Kennedy said, "I didn't want to do it at first, but my teacher talked me into it. Now I'm so glad that I did it."
Kennedy's mother, Tia, said she is glad that Pilster encouraged her daughter and all of the students to participate in Reflections program.
