Tonia Bingham, 96 of Blackfoot died March 19, 2011, at the Skilled Nursing Center in Blackfoot.
She was born Nov. 24, 1914 in Zapotiltic, Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Agapito and Petra Horta CortĂ©s.
Tonia was raised and educated in Mexico. She attended business college in Guadalajara and worked as a bilingual secretary for a legal firm, a mining company and the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Tonia married J. Paul Bingham on Sept. 23, 1946, in MazatlĂˇn, Sinaloa, Mexico.
They moved to Rexburg in 1946. She helped her husband in the family business, Bingham and Sons Appliances & Furniture in Idaho Falls.
From 1980 to 1984 she came out of retirement to work in migrant education programs in Blackfoot and Snake River school districts. Her hobbies were sewing, cooking and fishing.
She was a member of the Catholic Church
She is survived by her son, Richard (Dawn Marie) Bingham of Blackfoot, grandchildren Jeffrey Thomas Bingham, Marie Adomako (Rees), and one great-grandchild, Andrew Paul.
Tonia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, three brothers, six sisters and grandchild Paul.
The Rosary will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Hawker Funeral Home 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the St. Bernardâ€™s Catholic Church, 584 West Sexton St., Blackfoot.
Graveside services will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at email@example.com.
