Toussaint named Blackfoot DYW

BLACKFOOT — In an overall quality and entertaining production as good as any in a big city, accomplished dancer, Miiko Toussaint, wowed the crowd with a self choreographed lyrical dance performance, taking top honors as Blackfoot's 2013-14 Distinguished Young Woman at Saturday night's program held at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center.
With a whimsical and energetic 50's style "Twist and Shout" theme, 14 young women took the stage at the event where they were judged in fitness, scholastic, interview, talent and expression categories for a chance to win scholarships and to represent Blackfoot as DYW.
Toussaint, the daughter of Patrick Toussaint and Joy Mickelsen also took first place in the interview, talent, fitness and self expression categories, reaping over $3,000 in scholarships.
Meghan Hintze, who performed "Rumba" on the piano was named first-runner up, also earning awards in the "Be Your Best Self," scholastic, talent and fitness category earning over $1,300 in scholarships. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Wendy Hintze.
Justina Campbell, who impressed the crowd with a unique jump routine, was second-runner up, also receiving awards in the scholastic and interview categories earning over $1,000 in scholarships. She is the daughter of Jacob and Bobby Jo Campbell.
The Spirit of DYW award went to Emily Park, daughter of Kerry & Ronna Park.
"Be Your Best Self" Awards also went to Meghan Collard - daughter of Mark and Melissa Collard and Callie Hong - daughter of Don and Jenny Hong.
Heidi Dreher, who reigned as 2012-13 Distinguished Young Woman reflected on her past year as DYW saying "she has made lifelong friends and had some of the best and most meaningful experiences of her life."
