SHELLEY — Coming into Thursday's game with Rigby, the Shelley Russets had won their last three games.
And after the opening minute of the game Thursday it looked as if the streak would continue.
But a strong fourth quarter by the two-time defending 4A state champs including a 7-0 run in the final 1:14 of the game was the difference as the Trojans took down the Russets 57-50.
Shelley came out on fire shooting jumping out 7-0 forcing Rigby head coach Justin Jones to calla timeout.
Out of the timeout Rigby cut the Russets lead to 11-9 after back-to-back three pointers by Tyrel Phillips.
For the next three quarters the two teams would be locked in a battle where any change in momentum would affect the games outcome.
The difference in the game was a 7-3 run by Rigby over a 3:30 minute span of the third quarter to give the Trojans a 36-34 lead.
The Russets scored the final three points of the quarter to head into the final eight minutes with a 37-36 lead.
Shelley used some full court pressure defense to push the Trojans into turnovers and allowing the Russets transition defense to spread out the floor and collect easy baskets or trips to the foul line.
But the fourth quarter belonged to the Trojans and their hot shooting guard tandem of McCullough and Phillips.
Rigby outscored the Russets 21-13 in the quarter going 11-for-18 from the foul line to clinch the victory.
Shelley had chances to tie the game in the final minutes, but were unable to get the potential game-tying basket to fall.
The game was tied three times in the final quarter, but a three pointer by the Trojans Justus McCullough gave Rigby the lead for good.
The game was tied at 29-29 at the half after the Trojans came out in the second quarter on a 15-5 run to build a 29-20 leaf.
But over the final 2:54 of the first half the Trojans were held scoreless as Shelley went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at the half.
The loss snapped the three-game winning streak of the Russets at the seasons halfway point .
Nick Huston and Landon Larsen led the Trojans with a game-high 14 points. Phillips added 10.
Carter Cannon led Shelley with 13 points, Bracken Nelson added 10.
