BLACKFOOT — Two fires kept the Blackfoot Fire Department busy Sunday and Monday.
The first fire occurred at 10:05 a.m. at 342 E. 100 N. Sunday. The fire consumed approximately 500 tons of hay, sending smoke throughout Bingham County. The cause of the fire is unknown, but Capt. Dave Krumenacker said he believes the fire was unintentional and accidental. Total losses exceed $40,000. As of 5 p.m. Monday, the fire was still smoldering and the fire department continued to monitor its activity.
The Blackfoot Fire Department responded to another fire Monday at 3:05 p.m. The fire began in the backyard of 1428 E. Airport Rd. The fire destroyed a camper where a woman had been living and slightly damaged a car that was parked near the camper. The fire also spread to neighbors’ yards and toward the house where it began to melt the siding on the house.
There were people home when the fire began, but no one was injured. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
