BLACKFOOT — Two men were rescued from the Snake River Thursday morning after their boat capsized north of the Porterville Bridge.
The men, Jeff Childers and Frank Eversol, were fishing on the Snake River when they say their boat struck a tree limb and flipped over. Neither of the men were wearing life jackets, but were able to climb onto the top of their capsized boat and call for help on a cell phone.
The Bingham County Marine Patrol located the men and their boat approximately three miles upstream from Porterville Bridge. Their boat was stuck on rocks in the river.
Bingham County Sheriff Dave Johnson said the men were lucky. They walked away with only a few bumps and scrapes.
“The men say they hit a tree limb and it flipped their boat. It is a wonder they were able to get to safety,” Johnson said.
Johnson advises everyone—regardless of age or swimming ability—to always wear life jackets and to have life jackets available on their boat.
