United Way fundraiser kick-off Wednesday
BLACKFOOT — The Bingham County United Way kickoff is from 5—7 p.m. Wednesday in the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICCA), 1010 W. Bridge St., Blackfoot.
United Way is sponsoring the Chamber of Commerce After Hours, said kickoff chair person Diane Tauscher. After Hours is open to community members. Refreshments will be served.
Last year Bingham County raised $100,000, Tauscher said. United Way has been in Blackfoot for about 20 years.
Money raised, "goes to agencies in Bingham County," she said.
When making a donation, each person can designate where the money will go, for example, to a specific agency, said Gayla Paulk, one of the United Way organizers.
United Way-funded services directly touch lives of 62 percent of Bingham County residents each year.
During fiscal year 2010, 28,065 individuals were served by United Way in Southeastern Idaho. Twenty-one agencies received funds to help people. Some of these agencies included the Civil Air Patrol 096 Composite Squadron, the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, foodbanks, senior citizen centers and SEICAA.
The amount of money raised and distributed last year in Southeastern Idaho totaled $625,000.
This year's theme is Every ONE Counts. Members of the Blackfoot United Way organizing committee are Keith Gardner, Tauscher, Paulk, Marty Wallace, Colin Folsom, Kathleen Hall, Kathy Weiser and Cindy Slomkowski.
