Van Wayne Stears, 66, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at his home peacefully surrounded by his daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.
He was born Nov. 30, 1947 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Len Taylor Stears and Thelma Parks Stears.
Van grew up in the New Sweden area and San Diego, California.Â He graduated from Mount Miguel High School in California.
He was a member of the masonry union in San Diego.Â He owned Top & Trim in Blackfoot for years and Vanâ€™s Masonry where he was self-employed in the masonry construction business.Â
Van had resided in Rockford for many years before moving to Idaho Falls for the past 10 years.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, dune buggies and riding motorcycles and snowmobiling.
He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon (Scott) Gofigan of Jamul, California; and Jodi (Ryan) Lloyd of Star Valley, Wyoming;Â brothers, DeLen Stears of Salt Lake City, Utah; Allen (Linda) Stears of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and sister, Della Goody of Idaho Falls, Idaho;Â four grandchildren, Jesse and Jordon Gofigan and Shania and Ashlyn Lloyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Len and Thelma.
The family will meet with friends on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 from 3-4 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. Blackfoot, Idaho.Â Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home at 4 p.m. following the meet and greet.
There will also be a celebration of life later that afternoon at 6 p.m. at his nephew's home at 431 North 3800 East, Rigby, Idaho.
