Vera Colleen Arrington Choate Thurman, 89, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at her home.
She was born on May 3, 1922 in Woodville, Texas, to William David Arrington and Martha Ella Elizabeth Odom Arrington.Â She was the last child to join a family of four sisters and five brothers.
She was a farm girl and learned to work hard early.Â She was a tomboy and worked in the fields with her brothers.
She met a young man who moved to Texas from Arkansas.Â On May 13, 1940, she married Charles Calvin Alonzo Choate.Â Together they had four children, Delores, Elizabeth, Roger Dale, and Lonnie.Â He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1948.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Â She worked in the Primary, as a librarian and was a visiting teacher.
After her husband died, she moved in with her parents to have them help raise her children.
She started corresponding with a man from Wyoming.Â She married Milton Thurman on June 21, 1956.Â He also preceded her in death on July 19, 1988.
In 1957, she left Texas with her children and moved to Blackfoot.
Vera loved flowers; you could find her in the yard early in the morning and sometimes she would stay outside until it got dark.Â She took pride in her yard.Â She had a green thumb.
She is survived by her children, Delores (Mike) Rasley, Elizabeth Choate and Lonnie (Valerie) Choate; 2 granddaughters, 6 grandsons, 9 great-granddaughters, 11 great grandsons, 2 step-granddaughters, 2 step-grandsons, four step-great- granddaughters and 6 step-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; five brothers; both of her husbands; son, Roger Dale Choate; grandson, Cory Choate and son-in-law, Lonnie Lemon.
The family would like to thank the people at Acces Home Care and Hospice, Zack, Shantel, Celeste, Tia, Valerie, Scott at occupational therapy and Brent, Shayla, Shannon at physical therapy and Deedie Martin for always putting a smile on mamaâ€™s face.Â Thanks so very much.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at the Blackfoot 3rd & 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 845 Grant Street in Blackfoot.
Family will meet with friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.Â Interment will follow at Grove City Cemetery.Â
