BLACKFOOT — In Idaho, there have been no confirmed cases of swine (H1N1) flu. However, eleven students attending Blackfoot, Firth and Shelley High School, have been directly impacted by this flu.
The national conference for Business Professionals of America (BPA) was to be held in Dallas, Texas, May 5-10. BPA advisors were notified last Friday that the conference was canceled because of health concerns in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Blackfoot BPA advisor Bryan Flake said the organization leaders met with Dallas officials who felt that bringing 6,000 students from across the nation to the area would not be a good idea at this time. Seven students from Blackfoot, three from Firth and one from Shelley were scheduled to fly to Dallas this week. No students from Snake River were planning to attend this year's conference. Potentially, this disease could effect secondary and post-secondary students, said Marian Cummings, Snake River BPA advisor, since ISU students also attend this conference. The concern was that students from across the nation might possibly be exposed to this flu with the knowledge that they would be returning to their high school or college campuses. The BPA Nationals conference has been rescheduled for June 16-21, in Dallas.
