Teton hired as interim chief
The Morning News FORT HALL — The Fort Hall Police Department is without a chief for the fourth time in three years after the Fort Hall Business Council terminated Chief Reggie Thorpe Wednesday. Darrell Shay, chairman of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Law and Order Commission, said in a news release the commission recommended to the council that they terminate Thorpe for “performance and training deficiency issues” that surfaced in the commission’s evaluation. Former FHPD investigator Pat Teton has been hired as interim chief, to serve until a permanent appointment is made. Teton was appointed acting chief of police by the Business Council in 2007 to replace Elizabeth Perea, who was appointed following the resignation of former Chief Jim Gibson, but herself resigned from the position. Teton was replaced by Thorpe and was emergency management director for the Tribes before taking the interim chief post this week, a position held by Thorpe before he was appointed chief. Thorpe was hired as interim chief on April 21, 2008, and his appointment was made permanent within a few months after that. Shay could not be reached for comment, but said in the news release the position is being advertised.
