BLACKFOOT — A 19-year-old Blackfoot man was pronounced dead on arrival at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Sunday night from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on I-15 three miles north of Blackfoot.

According to the Bingham County Sheriff’s office,  Alexander F. Steffa was southbound on the interstate about 8 p.m. when the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving went off the left side of the roadway, came back on, crossed both lanes of traffic and collided with a guardrail.
The impact caused the Jeep to roll, ejecting Steffa, who was alone in the vehicle.
A hospital spokesperson said Steffa suffered massive head injuries. He was picked up at the site by an Air Idaho helicopter but died of his injuries en route to ERMC.
Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Cowley, Blackfoot police and the Blackfoot ambulance responded, and a passing Caribou County Ambulance crew stopped to assist.
Cowley said the investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.
