'78 Lincoln Continental to be raffled for POW-MIA Awareness
Wednesday, 08 July 2009

By Daniel Iverson

BLACKFOOT – A number of local donors are teaming up to raise money for veterans groups and other charities by raffling a custom demolition derby car.

The lucky winner will get to drive in style with a 1978 Lincoln Continental — the flagship car of the Lincoln brand — at the 9th annual POW-MIA Awareness Rally and Motorcycle Rodeo.
The car is topped with the number 1,740, which Pocatello POW-MIA general member Victor Salinas said is the number of veterans still missing from the Vietnam War alone.
“My father was a Vietnam vet,” he said. “He was one of the lucky soldiers to come home. A few didn’t get to come home.”
Bowers Collision purchased the car and coordinated with other local businesses and individuals to get it ready to drive.
The project included a paint job completed by Neil Breed worth about $1,000 and eight hours of airbrushing flames.
The car will be at Bowers Collision, 1311 S. Broadway St., until shortly before the rally. Tickets may be purchased there for $5 each or five for $20.
Raffle participants must be present at the rally to win. General admission for ages 12 and over is $15 for the weekend, and admission for ages 6–12 is $5. A pass for immediate family can be purchased for $40. Admission is free for ages 5 and under and for anyone with a military ID, whether active, retired, guard or spouse.
