Homicide suspect arrested in Aberdeen
Tuesday, 22 September 2009
By Chuck Oxley

ABERDEEN — A Bingham County man wanted in connection with a fatal attack in Cassia County is in the custody of law enforcement officials today after his arrest at about noon Monday in the Aberdeen.
The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement Monday afternoon saying 32-year-old Gerry Salgado of Aberdeen.
Cassia County Authorities said Lipolldo Amescua, 25, and Estella Castro, 46, had a pre-arranged meeting with Salgedo in the Raft River area on Sept. 19.
At 9:42 p.m. that night, Cassia County dispatchers received a distress call from Castro, who said she and her boyfriend had been assaulted.
When deputies arrived they found Amescuma dead and Castro had suffered severe injuries, although the nature of those injuries were not released. Castro was taken to the local hospital.
Meanwhile, Cassia County authorities said, Salgado took the victims car to get away from the scene. It was later found in the Snake River near the bridge over highway 25.
Authorities said an autopsy of Amescua is scheduled for Tuesday in Boise.
When he was arrested, authorities said items found near the arrest area led to Salgado’s identification.
It was unclear Monday evening whether Salgado had been transferred to the Cassia County jail, but he is expected to be sent there because “it’s their case,” a dispatching supervisor for Bingham County said. “Any information should come from them.”
Anyone with information about this suspect that may pertain to this crime please call, the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office at 208-878-2251, or Crime Stoppers at 208-878-2900.
