BLACKFOOT—Mike Virtue will spend another four years as Mayor of Blackfoot.

(The Morning News—Melanie Moore) Leon and Elsie Perkes cast their votes in the Blackfoot city election Tuesday. Nearly 32 percent of registered voters turned out to vote at Mountain View Middle School.

 

Nearly 32 percent of registered voters cast their ballots in the Blackfoot city election yesterday. A total of 1,549 votes were counted of a possible 4,847 registered voters.
Virtue received 51 percent of the vote, beating out Butch Hulse and Mary Morrison for mayor.
“I’m excited,” Virtue said. “At least we don’t have to do a runoff.”
Virtue garnered 790 votes, 181 more than Hulse, who had 609. Morrison received 138 votes.
Both Virtue and Hulse said it was a good race.
“I’m disappointed but  I’m thankful for the people that did vote for me,” Hulse said.
The race for City Council Seat No. 1 was close, with Chris Jensen edging out Mark May by just 68 votes.
Jensen totalled 793 votes with May receiving 725.
Chris Gardner was uncontested for Seat No. 2, and received 1,406 votes of a total 1,549 cast.
Elections were held at Mountain View Middle School.
Both the mayor and city council positions are four-year terms.
