Businessman saves restaurant

BLACKFOOT — Local businessman Mark May is trying to save another Blackfoot business from closing. May, who took over the Plaza Twin Theater nearly two years ago, is working to keep the Bronco Barn Pizzaria open for business. He took ownership two weeks ago from Mickie Vail and has big ideas for the small restaurant.
May has spent “a lot of time, effort and elbow grease” cleaning the restaurant to his standards. He and his son Bradley have worked to improve the food quality and consistency. His daughters Rachel and Megan also help.
“I make the pizzas the way I like them,” May said. The pizzas are now standardized and the toppings are proportionate to the size of the pizza, with toppings reaching the edge of the crust. His employees are also using a higher-quality mozzarella cheese.
“Several different people have said this is the best pizza they’ve had,” May said.
May said his workers have also improved the hamburgers, and they are now using 100 percent all-beef patties that are larger and more flavorful than their previous burgers.
While the pizza and burger quality has improved, May said they sell more fries than anything. They have added a special fry seasoning that May says has been a major hit with the students.
In addition to burgers and pizza, the restaurant also offers cheesy breadsticks, chicken strips, fish sticks, onion rings, pizza rolls and root beer floats. They are also offering a variety of sandwiches made with bread from Downtown Bread Company.
The changes so far have been successful for May, and he said business keeps improving.
“Each day our numbers get better,” May said. He is very optimistic about the future of the restaurant and has always believed the location had potential.
May has big plans for the future, and plans to add more seating, more televisions, an upgraded sound system and a drive-through window. He also hopes to offer breakfast and hot drinks. He will soon be renaming the restaurant Mark’s Place.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is closed Sundays.
The restaurant is  at 544 E. Walker St. in Blackfoot. The phone number is 785-1088.
