By Cole Fullmer PINGREE — Eight seconds might not seem like a long time for most, but for 16 Southeastern Idaho kids it’s a thrill of a lifetime. Morning News - Cole Fullmer Brady Oleson from Blackfoot had the ride of his life during the Casperson Miniature Bull Riding Winter Series on Saturday at Living Springs Indoor Arena in Pingree. With a score of 84 on his last ride he was declared the winner.
Saturday locals took on bulls more than twice their size in the Caspersone Miniature Bull Riding Winter Series at the Living Springs Indoor Arena in Pingree. Contestants holding the reins were as young as 7 years old. There were two age groups: 7-10 years old and 11-14 years old. Parents were cheering for their children as they tried to hold on for the eight seconds. Some children succeeded; others hit the dirt. The toughest youngsters you could ever meet have been holding the reins and spurring these bulls since the beginning of the year. The Casperson Miniature Bull Riding Winter Series consists of 5 events. Saturdays event was the third these cowboys and cowgirls have competed in this years series. Most of these young bull riders have dreams of competing in the PBR in the future. Judging by their talent, Southeastern Idaho has a talent that may overwhelm the bull riding circuit in the near future. Brady Oleson, a local Blackfoot resident that goes to school at the Sixth Grade School won the competition with a score of 84 riding a bull named High Altitude. Taking second place was Wylie Casperson with a score of 78. “I’m really excited, this was the best ride of my life,” Oleson said. I had the opportunity to choose High Altitude on my final ride. He bucked me off the last two times I rode him. I decided to choose him to get even, and I did.” The next competition for the Casperson Miniature Bull Riding competition will take place May 3 at Living Springs Indoor Arena.
