Western Energy wind hearing June 11
Tuesday, 10 June 2008

By: Emily Hone

BLACKFOOT — The public hearing on Western Energy Corp.’s application for a special use permit for a wind power project in the foothills east of Firth is scheduled to continue Wednesday, June 11, in Courtroom 3 at the Bingham County Courthouse.

The first half of the hearing for the Cedar Creek Wind Power Project took place on May 27 before the Bingham County  Planning & Zoning Commission.
It was recessed near midnight and continued to June 11 to ensure that everyone who wanted an opportunity to testify was heard.
According to P&Z staff, only people who signed up at the May 27 meeting will be allowed to present comment at Wednesday’s hearing.
Western Energy is seeking a permit to place 66 wind turbines on 5,000 acres owned by Ted and Shirley Thompson in a Natural Resources/Agriculture Zone at the east ends of Goshen and Sand Creek roads north of Wolverine Road.
Also on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting, and scheduled to go first, is a decision on a request for a variance from Peter Dennis Jensen of Pingree.
A decision was tabled following a public hearing before the zoning commission on May 14.
    The P&Z Commission meets at 7 p.m.
