By Emily Hone BLACKFOOT — Friends of Greg Larsen, 32, the Firth resident who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident in Montana on July 17 have scheduled a garage sale, benefit dinner and dance this Saturday to raise money to help him pay his bills while he’s unable to work.
Organizer Stacie McNeely said the dinner and dance will take place at the Pratt barn 1 mile south of Firth just off U.S. Highway 91, with the doors opening at 7 p.m. The garage sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 818 N. Highway 91 in Firth. The main course for the dinner will be fried chicken from Broulim’s, McNeely said, and she and other friends will bring the dishes to accompany it. Admission to the dinner/dance is a $10 donation per person. It will include a raffle, and silent auction, and the Idaho Falls classic rock/country band Code 7 playing music. Auction items include a log bed, handmade quilts, handmade knives and a fly rod, McNeely said. The raffle items will include gift cards from Wal-Mart, CAL Ranch and Sportsmans Warehouse, coupons for dinner at area restaurants, a fishing trip for two down the South Fork of the Snake and a photography package. Raffle tickets can be purchased on site. “A lot of good things will be raffled or sold at the silent auction,” McNeely said. “This is a chance for people to have dinner and enjoy themselves while helping a good cause.” Larsen is employed as a truck driver by Idaho Supreme Potatoes, McNeely said, and has medical insurance to cover his injuries, but faces a long recovery. “We’re trying to make sure he doesn’t lose the house where he lives with his 12-year-old son. “We hope people who know Greg, as well as fellow bikers, will turn out to to support the fundraiser,” McNeely said.”We don’t want to see him lose his home over something he can’t help.” McNeely said Larsen was riding his motorcycle in the Butte, Mont., area with friends in July when his front wheel hit a bump in the road. Larsen was thrown over the handlebars and landed on his head, resulting in a broken neck, fractured skull and fractured pelvis, she said. He was Life Flighted to Missoula for treatment of his injuries, and recently returned to Idaho but is hospitalized at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. “I just learned today that he suffered a seizure and is back in intensive care,” McNeely said. His son is staying with family members while awaiting his father’s recovery, McNeely said. His parents are Kim and Marilyn Larsen and Scott and Denise Coleman, all of Firth.
