William Leon Ransom, 69

William Leon Ransom, 69, a former resident of Blackfoot,, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 in Dallas, Texas.
Born Dec. 18, 1941 in Blackfoot to William Austin Ransom and Emma Laura Hill Ransom, Leon grew up in Southern Idaho, and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1960. Music was important to Leon throughout his life and he was a member of both the concert and the marching bands through his junior and senior high school years.
Leon served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil from1961 to 1963. Returning from his mission, he attended school at Idaho State University and later Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, studying Radio and Television. He served in the US Air Force Reserve until 1972.
He met Helen Jaffe in 1969 and they were married two years later in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple, Dec. 17, 1971. They were blessed with seven children.
Leon worked in the airline industry for almost 30 years, working at Western and Delta airlines. He retired in 1994, living in several western states during his career. In 2003 Leon and Helen moved to Atlanta, Ga. In the past few years they split their time between Texas and Georgia. Leon enjoyed traveling, music, genealogy and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Leon is survived by his wife, Helen of Irving, Texas; his children and their families: Sean Michael and Elena Ransom of New Orleans, La.; William Andrew and Cindy Ransom of Carrollton, Texas; Renee Ann Ransom of Irving, Texas; Sharon Kae and Ioelu Memea, of Winston, Ga.; James Aaron and April Ransom of Memphis, Tenn; Anthony J and Cathy Ransom of Cypress, Texas; and Emma Lin Ransom of Falls Church, Va., 11 grandchildren and one sister, Donna Hawker of Blackfoot.
His parents, two brothers, Wendell and James, and four sisters, Elma Worthen, Laurel Wilkinson, Willa Roberts and Emma Vee Hathaway, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends for an hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Groveland Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the American Legion, Stewart Hoover Post #23.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at the LDS Church 1947 Brocket Rd., Tucker, Ga.
