Winter weather advisory issued

BLACKFOOT — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Snake River Plain including Blackfoot, Pocatello and Idaho Falls in effect from 10 p.m. this evening through Thursday afternoon.
The Winter Weather Advisory is for wind and blowing snow. Winds are expected to increase to 30 mph late tonight and remain strong through Thursday morning. Snowfall is forecast to begin around Wednesday afternoon.
A series of winter storms are expected to work across Idaho this week dropping heavy snow in the mountains and bringing rain and snow to the valleys.

National Weather Service Forecast:

Late Afternoon: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 22. South southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Wind chill values as low as zero. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 18 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Wednesday: Snow likely, mainly after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Wind chill values as low as zero. Windy, with a southwest wind between 24 and 31 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Snow likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 30. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 24 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday: Rain and snow. Snow level 4500 feet. High near 41. South southwest wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday Night: Rain and snow likely. Snow level 4500 feet. Cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
