Franklin J. Colson, 80, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at South Davis Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, of Lou Gehrig’s disease.
He was born March 1, 1931, in Sterling, the son of Byrd Franklin Colson and Afton Ileen Cooper.
Frank was raised and educated in the Snake River School District and was the first student body president of the Snake River High School. He was one of the first to graduate from Snake River High School.
Frank’s father worked in construction therefore they lived in many areas including Swan Valley and Preston as well as Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana and Washington.
On Sept. 9, 1949, he married Alice Annettie Peterson in Elko, Nev.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Frank owned the Peterson Store in Riverside for 40 years.
He enjoyed cruising, traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time at their cabin in Palisades and his cows.
He is survived by his wife, Alice of Blackfoot; son, Franklin Scott (Marla) Colson of Mackay, Jeffrey Byrd (Barbara) Colson of Stanley; daughter, Alice Christinia Applegate of Blackfoot; brother, Robert F. (Marilyn J.) Colson of Blackfoot; 11 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven step-great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Riverside 2nd LDS Ward chapel.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
