BLACKFOOT — Those applying for a garden plot in the Blackfoot Community Garden will be required to attend a registration meeting Saturday.
The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church at 168 S. University. Garden plots vary in size from 4 feet by 4 feet raised beds up to ground plots as large as 20 feet by 20 feet. A $30 garden membership fee is required.

The garden is a new component of the Community Dinner Table. The garden will be organic and will be located on the corner of Airport Road and Teeples Drive. Gardeners will be responsible for their own plots including their own seed and plant costs.
The Community Garden organizers will also host a new gardening program for youth named the Blackfoot Sprouts Junior Gardener Program. Blackfoot Sprouts is a beginning gardening program for those ages 6-12. The group will meet every Wednesday at the garden for an activity and will each be assigned their own small space for gardening. The registration fee for Sprouts is $5. Those interested can contact Lyksett.
Garden work days will be each Saturday from April 16-May 7. During these workdays gardeners will be putting up fences, staking plots and pathways, preparing planting beds, mulching pathways, constructing a sheet and other tasks.
Then, on May 14, there will be a Spring Garden Festival celebrating the grand opening of the garden. The community event will feature exhibits, plant sales, games for kids, workshops, classes and other activities.
