ALBANY, Ore. — Don C. Lyon of Albany, Ore., passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the age of 84 surrounded by his family.
Don was a longtime resident of Albany where he owned and operated OK Novelty Service and where he and his wife of 62 years, Bonnie, raised their three children.
Don was born and spent his early years in Blackfoot graduating from Blackfoot High School in 1945. He worked shearing sheep, ranching and working for U&I Sugar Company.
He was the son of Clarence and Marie (Bailey) Lyon. He was the eldest of five children: Gordon Lyon (deceased), Wallace Lyon (deceased), half-sister Donna Schuemyer of Portland and half-brother Eddie Lyon of Portland.
During World War II, Don served with the U.S. Merchant Marines. He was also a member of the Elks, Masons, Shriners, American Legion and an honorary member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He supported many community activities and spent much of his time working the with Explorer Scouts, as well as coaching LDS Church basketball.
Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many hours enjoying the outdoors with friends and family. His greatest passion was family. His life was filled with experiencing life to the fullest and giving many loving memories.
He shall be greatly missed by wife Bonnie of Albany Ore.; son Barry Lyon and his wife Julie of Salem, Ore.; son Doug Lyon and his wife Gail of Albany, Ore.; and daughter Gayla Rosse and her husband Kevin of Williams Lake, BC, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Lucinda.
Memories of him will continue as he spent every moment with his loved ones including his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private burial will take place at the Basalt Cemetery in Firth. Donations can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Don’s name.
