BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Community Players open their new production, "Cindy Rella," tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Nuart Theatre.
The show will run tonight, Saturday, Monday and May 10, 11, and 13. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $5 opening night and $7 all other nights.
"Cindy Rella" is a fractured fairytale based on the classic Cinderella story. The plot follows Cindy Rella, played by Haley Krehbiel, and her two sisters Sparkle and Sugar, played by Rachel McPhie and Maren Brower. All three are still in high school and showcase the upcoming talent of the Community Players.
Cindy and her sisters prepare for stardom in a production of "Romeo and Juliet" directed by acclaimed director Sir Randolph Van Hubris, played by Steven Moldenhauer. Kendra Brinker plays Mrs. Rella.
Cindy must overcome her self-doubt if she's going to earn the role of her dreams, and she gets a little help from her Fairy Godmother (Dine Smith)—a balding construction worker on probation.
"We think the entire family will enjoy it," Director Clyde Christian said. "It's a funny twist on the fairytale set in modern times."
Larry Christian made the set, and Clyde Christian did set decoration. Christine McPhie manages the stage crew and props and Cindy Campbell is the house manager and lights and sound.
The Community Players produce several shows each season at the Nuart Theatre at 195 N. Broadway in Blackfoot. Their final show this season will be "Southern Hospitality," the third installment of the Futrelle Sisters series. "Southern Hospitality" opens in June.
